San Francisco Drug Rehab

San Francisco Drug Rehab understands the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse and we hope that by posting informative information regarding these dangers we can help people to avoid substance abuse or seek treatment before it’s too late.

Substance abuse commonly leads to addiction, legal troubles, health and social problems and even in some situations it can lead to sudden death. A recent study compiled by the Institute of Legal Medicine in Seville, Spain uncovered factors that resulted in the deaths of twenty one drug addicts. Though it may be assumed that these deaths were caused by overdoses, it was a fatal combination of drugs that were the real culprits.

Through autopsies and toxicology reports, the study determined that a fatal combination of cocaine, alcohol and tobacco were responsible for 3% of sudden deaths. Among deaths studied related to cocaine it was discovered that 76% had used alcohol and 81% had used tobacco. 62 % of the deaths were associated with cardiovascular problems and 14 % were associated with cerebrovascular causes (blood vessels in the brain) like strokes or aneurysms.

For years we have been aware of the stress that cocaine use places on our heart and can lead to sudden heart attack and death. With the advent of more drug abusers combining substances the chances of death increase exponentially. In the United States, 72% of all drug related deaths are caused by multiple substances being in the users system.

These facts reinforce the importance of drug treatment and rehabilitation. By reaching individuals and getting them the help that they need, we can reduce the number of drug related deaths and destroyed lives.
